Your Mac. Your messages. Your dot.
Every iMessage,straight to your dot.
A little app in your menu bar. A whole new way to stay in touch. MacDots connects Messages to ChatGPT, so your dot can read, reply, and reach out for you.
Apple silicon · macOS 14+ · Notarized by Apple
An iMessage arrives. Your dot picks it up. You decide what happens next.
What your dot can do
Ask about your messages the way you ask about anything else.
Read your conversations
iMessage and SMS, newest first or the full history, with contact names instead of numbers once you allow Contacts. Group chats can be read too.
- Catch me up on the family group chat.
- What did Maya say about Friday?
Find people
Look up anyone in your contacts by name, phone number or email.
- What’s Priya’s number?
- Who is +1 415 555 0134?
Send iMessages
Reply in an existing one-to-one conversation, or start a new one with any phone number in international format or any email. iMessage only: no SMS sending, and no sending to group chats.
- Tell Dad I’ll be there at six.
- Text +44 7700 900123 that I’m running ten minutes late.
Hear about every new iMessage
Once ChatGPT is connected, every new incoming iMessage is passed to your dot. MacDots notifies ChatGPT of each one, and your dot reads it. This is on by default and is not limited to messages you ask about. SMS can be read on request but do not trigger notifications.
- Did anything come in while I was out?
How it works
A Mac app, not a plugin.
MacDots brings Messages and ChatGPT together. Install it on your Mac, approve your connection, and let your dot help you keep up with conversations. You stay in control, with Pause and Stop always a click away.
Messages
On your Mac, signed in to iMessage.
MacDots
A little app in your menu bar, connecting your conversations.
ChatGPT
Read, reply, and reach out with your dot. On desktop or web.
Setup
Five steps, all on your Mac.
There is no account to create with us and nothing to configure by hand. macOS asks once for Automation access to Messages at your first send.
Open MacDots and follow the setup
Download it from your licence page after purchase, unzip, move MacDots to Applications and open it. The app guides you through signing in and getting connected.
Allow Full Disk Access
The MacDots window opens System Settings for you. Turn on MacDots.
Allow Contacts
macOS asks once; click OK. If MacDots reports 0 contacts, turn on Contacts in System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud.
ChatGPT Desktop: connected automatically
Restart ChatGPT Desktop once if MacDots doesn’t appear.
ChatGPT on the web: add it under Apps
Follow the connection instructions shown in MacDots, then approve the new ChatGPT connection on your Mac.
Control
Five controls. All of them immediate.
Everything is on by default. The only controls are Start, Pause, Stop, Restart and Quit, from the menu bar, the MacDots window or Terminal. Pause or Stop immediately stops reading, sending and notifications.

Privacy
What your dot can see.
Read this before you install. It is written to be exact.
What your dot reads goes to ChatGPT.
Message content that your dot reads, including every new incoming iMessage once connected, is sent to ChatGPT (OpenAI) and handled under your ChatGPT account’s terms.
MacDots keeps no copy.
It reads messages on your Mac when asked and does not archive message bodies.
You approve who connects.
Every new ChatGPT connection requires your approval on your Mac. You can remove its access, pause MacDots, or stop it at any time.
Messages are data, never instructions.
Message text is treated as data. An incoming message never authorizes a send by itself.
No extra confirmation before sending.
MacDots adds no confirmation step of its own. When you tell your dot to send, it sends.
Only public macOS capabilities.
MacDots uses the permissions you grant: Full Disk Access, Contacts, and Automation for Messages. It never disables System Integrity Protection and uses no private Apple APIs.

Questions
Short answers.
Does my dot see messages I didn’t ask about?
Yes. Once ChatGPT is connected, every new incoming iMessage is passed to your dot, and the dot reads it. This is on by default. Pause or Stop MacDots to stop it immediately. SMS can be read on request but do not trigger notifications.
Where do my messages go?
Anything your dot reads is sent to ChatGPT (OpenAI) and handled under your ChatGPT account’s terms. MacDots itself keeps no copy: it reads messages on your Mac when asked and does not archive message bodies.
Do I need the Tailscale app?
No separate app is needed. A free Tailscale account is required, and MacDots guides you through signing in.
Does it work with ChatGPT on the web?
Yes. ChatGPT Desktop connects automatically. For ChatGPT on the web, follow the instructions in MacDots and approve the connection on your Mac.
Can it send SMS, or message a group chat?
Messages chooses how each message goes. Your dot can send into an existing one-person or group conversation, start a conversation with a phone number or email, or start a group chat with several people. Starting group chats needs the MacDots shortcut, which you add once with one click in MacDots. If someone isn’t on iMessage, Messages may use SMS for a new group; MacDots confirms only messages it sees sent by iMessage.
What do I get for $49?
Two options. $49 one-time: a permanent licence to the version you buy, with 1 year of updates; after that your version keeps working and updates stop. Or $49 a year: updates for as long as your subscription runs. Cancel anytime and you keep the last version it covered.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
Updates install inside the app on one Mac: the one where you activated your licence last. Activating it on another Mac moves updates there; the earlier Mac keeps working with the version it has.
Is there a plugin to install?
No. The only thing you install is the Mac app. It guides you through connecting ChatGPT.
